Dear Colleagues
The International Society of Intraoperative Neurophysiology was founded in 2006 and held its first international conference in Lucerne, Switzerland in 2007. Since then international conferences were held every second year and educational courses every year. The worldwide interest in Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (IOM) is increasing and it is therefore obvious that there indeed is a need for our Society dedicated to education, research and the developments of monitoring SOP.
During the past conference in Rio de Janeiro in 2015, the new Board of the ISIN was established.
Francesco Sala moved to Past President, having led the Society successfully for two years. Under his auspice and with the local host Ricardo Ferreira we are looking back to an inspiring conference in Rio de Janeiro. Francisco Soto is the President-elect and Isabel Fernandez de Conejero became the new Secretary of the ISIN after serving as treasurer. We thank her for her strong efforts to keep the ISIN assets balance positive. Elif Ilgaz took over the treasurer position. She also will support Charles Dong in educational matters.
The reorganization of our webpage is on its way. Dr. Kathleen Seidel will help to manage the webpage and is surely happy about any kind of support.
The upcoming event will be the Educational Course in Groningen, Netherlands in November 2016. Due to a huge demand for training and education there are only few places available. With this Course the second cycle of the three-year-educational program will be completed. The educational program is a huge success with an increasing number of participants. The lecturers cover the broad field from anatomy, anesthesia, neurophysiology, neurosurgery to orthopedic surgery and are rated exceptional. Charles Dong serving as Education Committee Chairman established a well-organized course with international speakers providing excellent lectures. Having finished the second cycle, we will reassess the format.
In autumn 2017, the Korean Society for Intraoperative Neuromonitoring will host the next ISIN conference in Seoul, Korea. We are looking forward to exiting news and interdisciplinary discussion in intraoperative neurophysiology.
One major goal of the new board is to be the driving force behind further development of practice guidelines for IOM.
As the ISIN is a society of individual members, the society strongly relies on each member’s active participation and fulfilling the membership duties. This is indispensable and essential for the benefit and development of IOM. The resulting new methods and a high standard of IOM benefit last but not least not only our Society but our patients.
The new Board just started is looking forward to serving our Society and its members. We will be happy to receive your ideas or concerns.
Kind regards
Andrea Szelényi, President of the ISIN
